Gratitude, Is it important?

Do you practice gratitude? Daily, weekly, monthly, never? 
November tends to be a good jumping off point to start or restart this practice since the US celebrates Thanksgiving on the 4th Thursday in November in addition to heading into the winter months and other holidays. . 

An attitude of gratitude helps you see things in a positive light. I am not talking about ignoring troubles or challenges but practicing each day to notice the things you have to be grateful for, so when you are down you have a solid practice of recalling at least 3 things per day that you can say Thank You, I am so grateful for...

At first it may feel hard to come up with 3, 5 or 10 things per day but then you start seeing more and more and it becomes easier and easier.

I am grateful for technology that I can write, edit, communicate far and wide.
I am grateful for a strong body to help me move through the world with ease.
I am grateful for a loving family.

In my own experience I have noticed that this also spreads to those around you. If you do not speak negatively or gossip then those around you stop doing that as well. I worked in an office many years ago and really noticed how much chatter and mindless gossip was going around. One day I decided I was not going to listen or participate in that anymore. I did not want people speaking about me behind my back so at least I wouldn’t hear about it if they were. I would stop a conversation if it was heading that way and before long people had different conversations with me, we spoke on a deeper level.
